Join us for our Summer of Social Impact series, featuring a talk by Professor Christoper Blattman.
How to stop violence? The world is awash with groups fighting, from Hindu-Muslim riots, to civil war in Syria or South Sudan, to shootings on the streets of Chicago. Lots of solutions are proposed. The real question is: what is the problem? Without a proper diagnosis, any solution is unlikely to work. Most explanations for violence fall into five buckets. And these five kinds of explanation can help us understand an surprising amount of violence, from Chicago to South Sudan to Syria. Once we understand the problem, we are in a better position to seek solutions. Dr. Blattman will speak from his fifteen years of experience working with armed groups and the survivors of armed conflicts from places such as northern Uganda, Liberia, Colombia, and Chicago.
